A few notes on lady Papyrus' Alternate Universe:
- In her world, the monsters were more powerful than humans and are still able to take human souls. The humans, fearful that they will be taken away, descended underground to flee.
- While they are more powerful, the monsters are still kind and worried about the humans. They are worried and are waiting for them to become brave enough to come out.
- Through determination, the humans in this world are technologically advanced, but many lack hopes and dreams.
- The barrier is intended to keep monsters out, but in actuality it is intended to keep humans in.
- Underground, the humans adapted to the environment, using Hotland for energy, Waterfall for hydroponics, and Snowed In for freezing and storing.
- Chara, the monster child, entered into the world and was embraced by the royal family as a symbol of peace. For a time, there is hope that perhaps their time underground may be over
- This hope was shattered when Chara took the soul of Asriel and claimed it as their own. The humans, fearful of Chara's power, attacked him and they died.
- The fear of monsters peaked, and the humans became more fearful of monsters.
- Many humans, however, desire to leave and return to the surface. The belief is that should the humans find a way to face the monsters on equal terms that they would be able to leave freely.
- W.D. Gaster uncovered a process which allowed humans to channel their hopes and dreams as monsters do. The origin of this discovery is short lived, as an accident removed Gaster from existence.
- Alphys, the new royal scientist, rediscovered Gaster's lost work and found a way to use Chara's ashes to catalyze the effect. Her intention is to create a human-monster hybrid.
- Unfortunately, while the process was simple, only individuals that have latent hopes and dreams were capable to use them. The land of the humans was a bleak place and many were losing hope.
- Alphys combined Chara's ashes to create a myriad of objects which she dubbed MONSTER S.O.U.L.s -- Sigil of Untapped Love. These objects are in the form of otaku merchandise, from shoelaces, to pins, to commemorative t-shirts. She then sells these products and monitors SOULS that are sufficiently activated.
- An unintended side-effect is uncovered where humans who activated their souls temporarily assume a monster form when they highly resonate. Fear and panic erupts and it takes the announcement of Queen Asgore explains the intention of the devices. Humans are encouraged to try as many as they can to take part of a strike force to retake the surface.
- The ashes of Chara ends, and the need for more ashes prompts the need for more ash.
- The six monster children gradually enter through the underground. Thankfully by this time, human children are high in hopes and dreams and frequently assume a monster's shape. It is only when these monsters children die by accident that they are discovered to be monsters. Their ashes are taken and more objects are made.
- Ultimately, Alphys runs into a block as humans can only maintain a monster form for a short time. He then continues research to find a way to enhance the hybridization process. In the process of doing so, sufficient entered into the body of a flower and a new monster was created. A monster without the ability to hope and dream: Flowey.
- Papyrus is taken from the point in which the seventh monster was found. She hopes to find this monster child and take her place in Undyne's Retake the Surface Strike Force.
